February 15, 2021 | Vol. 7 No. 12 THE NEW SCHOOL Nancy Lang | Head of School As we reflect on the past year, we most certainly acknowledge the many challenges we’ve faced, individually and collectively. Not to diminish the impact of those challenges, I believe it is healthy to consider the things that have remained consistent and some of the opportunities we would not have discovered without some of the challenges.
Mary Sweeney | Head of Early Childhood When you think of children taking part in music and movement in Early Childhood - you think of Mr. Troy at The New School. Mr. Troy makes our music and movement program special. You will find him around every corner engaging our students in music or movement. Last week, he spent time on our icy virtual days making connections with our students and their families through Facebook. Children were choosing their favorite songs and parents were reporting back through the comments.
Jade House | Head of K-6 Having a rigorous reading, writing and spelling program are one of our top priorities. This year, we have a new phonemic awareness program called Orton-Gillingham. This is a multi-sensory approach to learning. This week, I asked Laura Apperson, our Teaching and Learning Coach (TLC) to briefly write about the program and ways parents can support their child’s learning.
J.R. Neiswender | Head of Upper School It is difficult to think that spring is right around the corner when I look outside at our continued pattern of below-freezing days and frozen precipitation falling from the sky. But in the Upper School, traditional “spring tasks” are already occupying our minds. We are currently thinking about the fact that the end of the marking period is fast approaching and planning for the 2021-22 school year is well underway.
David Ferrell | Athletics Director In the last month we had a lot happen in Athletics! Our Bowling team competed in the Conference tournament February 5th and qualified for the State Tournament in Conway! We look forward to seeing how they do at State as they represent TNS. NEWS AT THE NEW SCHOOL Remember to Re-enroll! The deadline for our families to re-enroll was February 7th and I hope you all will commit to the 2021-2022 academic year and continue to be a part of our community. After February 7th, we opened enrollment to prospective families. Based on the response from the tuition reset and the number of prospective families requesting tours, we will have waitlists in many classes. Please complete the re-enrollment contract as soon as possible.
Seniors Honored at Thursday's Basketball Game Last week, TNS Athletics honored our two seniors, Holden Blankenship and Gunner Husnian with senior night. Congratulations to Holden and Gunner!
Good luck in the district tournament!
