February 1, 2021 | Vol. 7 No. 11 THE NEW SCHOOL Nancy Lang | Head of School “Change is hard.” I keep hearing that statement, but I believe that is a wholly incomplete statement. I do not believe that change in and of itself is hard or easy. I believe the critical factor is trust. Change without trust is hard, but change with trust is natural, healthy, and necessary. When I arrived at TNS 18 months ago, in the wake of significant turnover, I heard a loud and clear need for stability.
Jack Sweeney | Director of Advancement On January 11, Nancy Lang announced the tuition reset to our parents and the larger Northwest Arkansas community. The response from current parents and their appreciation has been amazing. The word of the TNS Tuition Reset is out and the admission office has been busy with processing re-enrollment contracts and setting up tours for prospective families.
Mary Sweeney | Head of Early Childhood The New School family has been growing leaps and bounds this year. Many of our students have welcomed new siblings to their families. For those who are thinking about expanding or are about to, or recently have, you may be wondering how this change could affect your firstborn.
Jade House | Head of K-6 This year we have been revamping our writing curriculum. Last year, our teachers and stakeholders selected the updated program of Lucy Calkins. Her writing curriculum is based on the philosophy that children should construct and redefine their writing by using their experiences and background knowledge.
J.R. Neiswender | Head of Upper School I was reminded when I looked at a calendar last week that we have just hit our 100th day of school this year! And while we may not celebrate this milestone in the Upper School with the fanfare that some of our Lower School Cougars do, it is still a terrific reminder that in this year where so many things have been different from what we are accustomed to, many things continue to remain the same. Getting past the 100th day is a tribute to our teachers and students and their determination to make this school year incredibly successful in all the ways that truly matter.
Jonny Schremmer | Arts Director Last week we kicked off The New School’s 50th anniversary year with a compilation of past theatrical and performances in a video called TNS Rewind. Andrea Romine said the following while in front of the old stage that is now the lower school Tinkering Studio: “I was The New School drama director for 45 years NEWS AT THE NEW SCHOOL Re-Enrollment Contacts Due Feb. 7 Re-enrollment contracts are available for parents to review in their Blackbaud account, much earlier than in the past. The deadline for re-enrollment contracts is February 7, 2021.
Did you miss The New School Rewind Video? Just in case you missed the TNS Rewind event, the video is available on the TNS youtube channel.
IMPORTANT REMINDERS TNS Student Council Valentine's Fundraiser The TNS Student Council is continuing the tradition of the Valentine's Day Fundraiser this year, but it is going to look a little different. Rather than having a booth at the entrance of the lower school, all sales will be done online! The link to our website is below and we are very excited to get to roll this out to everyone! If you have any questions or need additional information please contact TNSStuCo@thenewschool.org.
You can send a valentine to anyone (student or teacher) from the ECE to the Upper School, but students younger than 7th grade are not allowed to purchase valentines for other students. Since students will not be on campus on Valentine's Day, we will be handing out all Valentine's orders on Thursday, February 11th. This being said, the deadline for putting in orders is Wednesday, February 10th at 12:00 pm. This is to ensure that we can make all of the orders by delivery time for everyone to share in the Valentine's fun.
One Carnation - $3 Three Carnations - $7 Candy-gram/Balloon - $6 Candy/Balloon/Stuffed Animal - $10
Thank you all for your continued support of the TNS Student Council! Happy Valentine's Day!

From the School Nurse This year The New School will not be hosting a flu shot clinic, however, as part of our Community Commitment, we ask that families prioritize getting a flu vaccine unless there is a medical reason not to do so. See the following options for flu shot locations below, or contact your doctor or local pharmacy.
