SPOTLIGHT Race to $320K and 100% Participation! I write to you not just as a teacher at the New School, but as a parent who has three children enrolled in the school as well. As you know, our annual fund is a priority right now. I encourage you to contribute to this worthy cause. This is not just an investment in your child's education but in your child's future as we provide them with the foundation to become educated, contributing future members of society. These funds are used to support new technology & communication systems, professional development, and enhanced programs for our kids in academics, arts, and athletics here at TNS.
I sincerely thank you for your serious consideration in supporting our school. As a parent and teacher, I know first-hand how important the annual fund is to supporting the educational vision of the New School. Sincerely, At The New School, one of our three core values is Community. Our faculty and staff have demonstrated their commitment to our community by their 100% participation in the annual fund, and now is the time for you to join them! We need the rest of the community, our parents, grandparents, alumni, and friends to help us reach our annual fund goal of 100% Community Participation. No gift is too small, and from now until May 31, every gift is matched 1:1. You can make your gift or pledge online at thenewschool.org/give or bring your donation to the development office. FROM DR. GROESBECK Dear New School Community, I have two quick thoughts today. The first is about Teachers. Being a teacher is more of a calling than a profession to me. Yet, teachers have to put food on the table and the percentage increase this year was meaningful to our faculty and staff. It is great news that our teachers will be returning next year in record numbers. We have beaten all NAIS statistics on retention. More on that in an email to parents later. In writing a teacher job description this week, the first line is: "Cultivate a hunger for knowledge among students and engage them to learn" and our TNS teachers do that in spades.
Secondly, I appreciated good advice I recently learned in an article about how parents can bond with their kids by focusing on personal disclosures. Entitled "How Empathy Is Important for Parents and Teens When Things Get Stressful," I think you might also find it useful.
Enjoy our lovely weather! Dr. Susan R. Groesbeck Head of School, Interim
