Dear New School Community,
And so another month closes and May will begin tomorrow. How can it be?
Next week, the 6th grade class takes their amazing trip to the US Space and Rocket Center in Hunstville, Alabama for four days with their teachers. The next week, our 5th graders will have an enviable trip to Ozark Natural Science Center in Hunstville, Arkansas. And finally the third week of May, grades 7 through 11 will all depart on magical trips from New York City to Nashville. They will see culture and sites and more importantly, they will bond with each other and their teachers and create memories for a lifetime.
I still remember my trips with students from decades ago. So do they. It's not corny or trite. It's the stuff that makes us different from other schools. We can teach and enjoy our students and cherish these moments.

Farnahan's Circus Next Thursday
The Pre-K students are busy rehearsing "Farnahan's Circus," a decades-long New School tradition! The ringmasters, wild cats, super strong kids, clowns and acrobats will take the stage next Thursday, May 9th at 10:00 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.

Books and Movement: A Magical Mix
PreK and Kindergarten Family Literacy Night was a huge success. We started this Initiative to work on early literacy last semester and our children have been working hard all year supporting each other. This initiative embodies The New School's mission and vision statement empowering each student through a well-rounded experience and to be confident and engaged learners who lead through collaboration and compassion.Read more about this magical night here, and view pictures on our Flickr album.

Middle School Parent-Teacher Conferences
Middle School parent-teacher conferences will take place the last week of school. Your child's homeroom teacher will send out a sign-up with their availability later this week.
Upper School Conferences and Student Final Exams
Parents are invited to sign up for individual year-end teacher-parent conferences with their child's teachers the week of May 13-17. Finals will be in the mornings, and teachers will be available for conferences at different times, depending on their schedules. Teachers will contact parents with their availability and make arrangements individually. Additionally, Marshall and Jennifer will be available to help set or review 4-year or 6-year course planning in case you have questions.

Masterclass for Music Students
Our rock bands and Ensemble II students visited George's Majestic Lounge Tuesday, April 23, to learn from renowned musicians Victor Wooten and Daniel Levitin. The masterclass covered a plethora of topics related to groove, improvisation and creating a sense of self-confidence both on and off the stage.

Student Performs with Jazz All Stars
Last night the Walton Arts Center hosted its third annual Jazz All-Stars performance with special guest, Victor Goines. The Jazz-All Stars is a group of the area's top performing high school Jazz musicians. One of our very own students, Olive Z., was featured on the tune "I'll Be Seeing You" with the All-Stars and Mr. Goines. Great job, Olive!

Students from grades 8 to 11 are invited to attend our TNS Spring Formal. Tickets are on sale for $40 each and are available for purchase until this Thursday, May 2.Additional Extended Day Activities Available
